Key Programs in 2024
Thanks to the Walter Reed Society, we offer programs for caregivers of wounded, ill, or special needs service members and Veterans. A highlight is our EFMP Spring Family Day at Lifeline Horse Rescue and Equine Therapy.
Outdoors
Blue Star Outdoors offers outdoor recreation for military families, including monthly park dates for preschool and homeschool-aged children. Our Connect Outdoors Cohort, selected via lottery, explores local parks. Families also get free access to 2,000+ federal recreation areas with the America the Beautiful pass.
Coffee Connects foster socialization and community for military families. Whether you’re a remote worker, stay-at-home parent, or new to town, join our monthly meetups, supported by Starbucks, First Command Financial, and Houchin Homes to connect and explore local resources.
Back to School
In partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, Leonardo DRS, and Walmart, we provided school supplies to 132 military families and 272 students this fall. One relocating family shared, “This event saved us so much time and money. Thank you!”
In partnership with the Modern Military Association, this monthly program supports LGBTQ+ military youth (ages 13-19) and their families. Allies are welcome! Youth build friendships and find support, while parents connect with other LGBTQ+ families to share resources.
